RTA Achieves Dhs3.7 Billion in Revenue via Digital Channels in 2023
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority Reports Strong Growth in Digital Services
In a significant announcement reflecting the ongoing digital transformation in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed impressive financial gains from its digital services for the year 2023. Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, reported a remarkable 16.8% increase in digital revenues, reaching an astounding Dhs 3.705 billion compared to the previous year.
This impressive growth is better contextualized by the total number of digital transactions processed through RTA’s channels, which soared to 821 million—an increase of 1% from 2022. More notably, transactions via RTA’s smart apps alone accounted for 15.299 million, witnessing a phenomenal 29% growth. Furthermore, a customer satisfaction metric—the real-time happiness indicator—has also seen a rise, with over 95% approval rating across RTA’s apps, highlighting a 2% improvement from the previous year.
Al Tayer emphasized the importance of innovation and digital evolution in enhancing the quality of life for Dubai residents. “RTA’s digital transformation is guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, who envisions Dubai as the best city in the world to live in. Furthermore, we strive to fulfill the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai,” he mentioned during his announcement.
The statistics are compelling: The number of registered users on RTA’s digital channels surged to 1.404 million, reflecting a substantial 20% increase from the previous year. App installations also rose impressively, totaling 3.056 million from various app stores. These figures illustrate not only the widespread adoption of digital technologies but also highlight RTA’s commitment to providing user-friendly, accessible, and efficient services.
Cutting-Edge Technology Integration
RTA’s push toward digital transformation includes not just an expansion of services but enhancements in technology as well. A key advancement has been the launch of an upgraded Mahboob Chatbot, now powered by ChatGPT technology. This enhancement promises users more human-like interactions while also upholding stringent data protection standards.
RTA is also broadening the accessibility and efficiency of its services through the next generation of smart kiosks. With 30 new kiosks erected across 21 customer happiness centers and service provider locations, these intelligent interfaces are designed to deliver faster and more effective service. Al Tayer reported that these kiosks generated over Dhs 309 million in revenue during the year, which marked a 12% rise compared to the year before.
Moreover, the RTA has revolutionized its customer experience by redesigning processes for 42 services. By instituting a monitoring system with proactive notifications, RTA is enhancing service quality and responsiveness, ensuring that customer needs are met promptly.
Innovative Features and User-Friendly Upgrades
In line with the digital transformation goals, the RTA has rolled out an updated version of the RTA Dubai app. This upgrade serves as a unified and streamlined platform for various services. Among the new features is an AI-powered parking prediction tool that covers 190,000 locations throughout Dubai—a significant resource for motorists looking to navigate the busy urban landscape.
Additionally, a new NFC-based nol top-up system enables users to instantly update their balance without having to physically visit public transport stations or interact with card reading devices. The revamped Dubai Drive app further simplifies vehicle plate transfers, reducing the need for visits to service centers and significantly shortening transaction times.
To ensure a secure and seamless user experience, the app has incorporated UAE PASS login capabilities, eliminating the need for separate RTA accounts and helping to streamline access to services.
Looking Ahead: The Future of RTA
RTA’s extensive digital growth reflects a broader trend within Dubai, positioning the emirate as a global leader in adopting smart technologies. The results produced by RTA are a testament to their role in not only modernizing transport services but also significantly contributing to Dubai’s reputation as an innovative city.
As Dubai continues to embrace technological advancements, it lays the groundwork for improvements in various public services, making life easier and more efficient for its residents and visitors alike. RTA’s ongoing commitment to customer happiness and quality service underlines the ambition of Dubai to not only be a regional hub but also a benchmark for cities around the globe.
As we move forward, it will certainly be interesting to see how RTA continues to evolve its digital services and what new technologies will be integrated to enhance the customer experience.
