The bustling city of Dubai is gearing up for the start of the 2024-2025 academic year, with over one million and 100 thousand students set to return to classrooms on Monday, 26 August. Both public and private schools, as well as kindergartens, will be welcoming back their students, marking the beginning of a new semester under the Ministry of Education’s curriculum.

In preparation for the new academic year, educational institutions have been busy conducting professional development workshops for their teaching, technical, and administrative staff. Approximately 23,000 educators participated in 165 training sessions, totaling 656 hours of training. In Dubai alone, over 24,955 teachers from 220 private schools attended these workshops, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide quality education to their students.

The Ministry of Education has also been actively recruiting new teaching personnel to address any staff shortages and ensure that students receive the best education possible. This continuous recruitment process throughout the year has focused on hiring individuals with the right expertise and competencies to contribute to the success of the education system in the UAE.

Enrollment figures for the new academic year show that approximately 290,000 students are enrolled in public schools at the state level. These students, along with those attending private schools and technical and applied schools, are required to follow a prescribed study plan until the 2025-2026 academic year. This plan, established at the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year, lays out the number of school days, holidays, and exam schedules for students and staff to follow.

The academic calendar for the upcoming year includes a total of 185 school days, with breaks and holidays spread out across the three semesters. The first semester will have 16 weeks, the second semester will have 11 weeks, and the third semester will also have 11 weeks. Additionally, there will be six official holidays throughout the year, evenly divided between the first and third semesters.

Final exams for each semester are scheduled, and results will be announced according to the calendar. The academic year will conclude with end-of-year holidays beginning in June for students and July for staff members. Fridays are official workdays in all emirates, with Saturdays and Sundays serving as weekly holidays except in Sharjah, which observes a three-day weekend.

In anticipation of the new academic year, the Ministry of Education has inaugurated 25 educational establishments, including 12 newly established schools and 13 schools undergoing maintenance. This strategic move is part of the Ministry’s efforts to accommodate the growing population and demand for public education services in the country.

Moreover, the Ministry has prioritized the safety and security of students by conducting comprehensive maintenance on over 5,000 school buses in preparation for the new academic year. School transport routes have been optimized to ensure a safe and comfortable daily journey for students, with a focus on adhering to strict safety standards.

Both public and private schools have confirmed their readiness to welcome students for the upcoming academic year, thanks to the collaborative efforts of educational authorities across the UAE. Comprehensive plans have been put in place to enhance the educational environment in schools and uphold the highest standards of education for all students.

As the new academic year approaches, the education sector in Dubai is primed to provide students with a supportive and enriching learning experience, setting the stage for a successful year ahead.
