2,400 Students in Abu Dhabi Participate in AI Summer Programs

Abu Dhabi’s Education and Knowledge Department (ADEK) has teamed up with 42 Abu Dhabi and the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) to introduce an exciting lineup of AI Summer Programs. Designed to ignite a passion for AI among students and equip them with the necessary skills to excel in this rapidly evolving field, these programs are tailored for 2,400 students in grades 9 to 12 from both public and private schools.

The centerpiece of these programs is the Generative AI and Prompt Engineering Bootcamps, crafted in collaboration with 42 Abu Dhabi. These bootcamps offer a hands-on learning experience for students in grades 9 to 12, focusing on enhancing their problem-solving abilities and preparing them for the future workforce. Held over four weeks, the bootcamps come in two formats to accommodate different learning styles. The full-day bootcamp, stationed at six schools across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, delves deep into Generative AI and Prompt Engineering, providing participants with valuable insights into fine-tuning language models and mastering practical AI tools. For those seeking a more condensed learning experience, a 2-hour session, in partnership with Majalis Abu Dhabi, offers Emirati students the chance to engage in interactive group exercises and gain exposure to key AI concepts.

In a strategic collaboration with MBZUAI, a five-day summer program has been tailored for grade 11 students, offering a diverse range of workshops covering topics such as film production, generative AI, responsible AI, and sustainability research. Additionally, ADEK and MBZUAI are gearing up four Emirati students for the highly anticipated International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), scheduled to take place from August 9-15 in Bulgaria. To ensure the team is well-prepared, two MBZUAI students will serve as mentors, providing guidance and support as they compete on the global stage.

Commenting on the initiative, Mubarak Hamad Al Mheiri, ADEK Undersecretary, emphasized the department’s dedication to nurturing a generation of students who are primed for success in the evolving landscape of AI. He highlighted the importance of empowering young minds to drive meaningful change on a global scale and stressed the value of partnering with esteemed institutions like 42 Abu Dhabi and MBZUAI to deliver world-class AI training to Abu Dhabi’s youth.

As the world hurtles towards an increasingly AI-driven future, initiatives like the AI Summer Programs play a crucial role in equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in this digital age. By instilling a passion for AI at a young age and providing them with practical training, these programs are paving the way for a new generation of AI leaders who will shape the future of technology and innovation.
