UAE Launches New Care Center for Injured Palestinians

New Comprehensive Centre for Injured Palestinians Opens in the UAE: A Beacon of Hope and Rehabilitation

In a commendable demonstration of solidarity and humanitarian commitment, the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO) has officially inaugurated a new comprehensive rehabilitation center specifically designed to provide assessment, support, care, and rehabilitation services for Palestinians injured in conflict zones. This initiative aligns with the broader directives of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) leadership and endeavors to bolster support for the Palestinian populace during their ongoing struggles.

The new facility is a product of meticulous planning and collaboration with Emirates Humanitarian City, a pivotal entity located at the city’s headquarters. Its establishment represents a significant step in the UAE’s continued efforts to address the needs and challenges faced by People of Determination, particularly those who have been transferred to the UAE for critical medical treatment.

This initiative is a direct extension of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s vision, which aims to provide medical assistance to 1,000 injured Palestinians and an equal number of cancer patients. The initiative is rooted in a deep commitment to enhancing the quality of life for these individuals, empowering them to reintegrate into society as active contributors despite their circumstances.

The centre aspires to deliver distinguished services focused on care, rehabilitation, psychological support, and social reintegration for the injured Palestinians. This marks not only a significant advancement in the provision of care but also a vital lifeline for individuals and families grappling with the repercussions of conflict. Such initiatives underscore the UAE’s humanitarian ethos and its proactive role in supporting vulnerable communities.

Equipped with specialized facilities, the newly inaugurated center within Emirates Humanitarian City is tailored to meet the comprehensive care needs of People of Determination. Facilities include dedicated rooms for medical and psychological evaluations, therapy rooms offering an array of rehabilitative services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and auditory rehabilitation. The integration of educational rooms highlights the centre’s commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment, equipped with tools tailored to the varying needs of individuals across all age groups. Furthermore, administrative offices are designed to streamline service management and enhance operational efficiency.

The Zayed Higher Organization’s specialists have already made significant strides in their mission, having assessed 123 cases of People of Determination, while conducting approximately 80 therapy sessions each week. Their efforts extend to addressing the needs of individuals with physical disabilities, having met the supportive needs of around 66 cases while also providing 11 hearing aids to enhance communication for those with hearing impairments. Such proactive measures are instrumental in fostering social inclusion and facilitating everyday life for these individuals.

Collaboration with educational institutions has also formed a key aspect of ZHO’s approach. In partnership with Ibn Sina School for Deaf Education, the organization has established auditory rehabilitation classes to facilitate the integration of students with hearing impairments into the Emirati school system. Similar initiatives have been undertaken to support individuals with visual impairments, as ZHO offers training in Braille, enabling seamless integration into local educational frameworks. Additionally, they extend educational services tailored to individuals with intellectual disabilities across various categories, emphasizing their commitment to providing a supportive educational environment.

The organization has also initiated fitting programs for prosthetic limbs, ensuring recipients receive comprehensive guidance on adapting to their new circumstances. This includes physical therapy aimed at training users in the practical application of prosthetics, alongside the necessary moral encouragement to instill confidence in their daily use. Additionally, ZHO has provided vital mobility aids, including wheelchairs and braces, to further support the independent daily lives of People of Determination and injured Palestinians.

The establishment of this rehabilitation centre heralds a new chapter in the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian support and care for those affected by conflict, particularly our Palestinian brothers and sisters. With targeted services designed to meet diverse needs, the Zayed Higher Organization is setting a high standard for rehabilitation initiatives in the region while exemplifying a profound commitment to human dignity and empowerment.
