Teneo, a global communications and strategy firm, has been selected to provide communications and corporate strategy support for COP29, the United Nations climate conference scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11 to November 22.

Under a seven-month contract with COP29 Azerbaijan Operations Company, Teneo will receive a monthly retainer of 5,000, in addition to expenses. For the months of May and June, Teneo will be compensated .425 million and 0,000, respectively, as an exceptional arrangement.

A dedicated team of 10 to 12 professionals from Teneo will be stationed in Baku, rotating in and out on three-week assignments to ensure that five to six executives are continuously present on the ground. Geoff Morrell, president of Teneo’s global strategy & communications practice, will be part of the team in Azerbaijan. Morrell has a wealth of experience, having previously served as executive VP of communications & advocacy for British Petroleum in London and Washington, DC.

In addition to the on-the-ground team, Teneo’s offices in New York, Washington, London, Brussels, and Hong Kong will provide support for the COP29 effort. The firm’s scope of work will include narrative development, content creation, issues management, media relations, and media training.

Teneo’s involvement in COP29 follows their successful work at COP28 in Dubai, where they provided communications counsel to Masdar, the renewable energy unit of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, for which they received .6 million.

Overall, Teneo’s expertise and global presence make them well-equipped to support the communication and corporate strategy needs of COP29 as the conference in Azerbaijan approaches.
