SEWA awarded international sustainability certification
Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has received global recognition for its commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation. Represented by the Services and Technical Support Department for Information and Communication Technology, SEWA was awarded a prestigious certificate from the international organization “PrintReleaf Standard” in acknowledgment of its outstanding efforts in promoting sustainable development and environmental preservation.
This achievement was made possible through a partnership between SEWA and Xerox Emirates, as part of a global reforestation initiative approved by “PrintReleaf Standard.” By planting trees in exchange for printed papers, SEWA was able to plant a total of 115 trees from January 1st to May 31st, 2024, demonstrating its dedication to environmental stewardship.
Majid Huraimel Al Shamsi, Director of SEWA General Department of Institutional Support, accepted the certificate on behalf of SEWA from Mahmoud Al Yahya, General Manager of Xerox UAE. Al Shamsi emphasized that receiving this international recognition highlights SEWA’s commitment to environmental conservation and support for meaningful initiatives, in alignment with the vision and directives of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
This achievement serves as a testament to SEWA’s ongoing efforts to achieve positive outcomes in accordance with its strategic plan for sustainable development. Ahmed Hussein Abdullah Al Hammadi, Head of the Services and Technical Support Department at the Information and Communication Technology Department, highlighted the significance of participating in the global reforestation initiative in reducing carbon emissions.
The “PrintReleaf Standard” program focuses on afforestation in various regions worldwide based on the amount of paper used in printing, reflecting SEWA’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Al Hammadi underscored SEWA’s commitment to electronic transformation, reducing paper consumption in the workplace, and educating employees on the importance of sustainability practices.
SEWA is actively engaged in initiatives that contribute to environmental preservation while striving to achieve zero paper usage through the responsible use of printers and paper. This holistic approach to sustainability underscores SEWA’s dedication to promoting environmental stewardship and advancing sustainable practices within the organization and the community.
As SEWA continues to innovate and lead in sustainability efforts, the receipt of this global certificate serves as a milestone in its journey towards a more environmentally conscious future. The recognition from “PrintReleaf Standard” further solidifies SEWA’s position as a champion of sustainability and a role model for organizations seeking to make a positive impact on the environment.
In conclusion, SEWA’s commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation is not only commendable but essential in today’s rapidly changing world. Through partnerships, initiatives, and a dedicated focus on sustainable practices, SEWA is setting a benchmark for organizations to follow in creating a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.
