SEWA achieves international recognition for its sustainability achievements
The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) have recently been recognized for their outstanding commitment to sustainable development and environmental preservation by receiving a prestigious global certificate from the international organization PrintReleaf Standard. This recognition was specifically awarded to SEWA’s Services and Technical Support Department for Information and Communication Technology, highlighting their dedication to making a positive impact on the environment.
Through a partnership with Xerox Emirates, SEWA has participated in the global reforestation program endorsed by PrintReleaf Standard. Between January 1 and May 31, 2024, SEWA successfully planted 115 trees in exchange for the paper used in printing, showcasing their proactive approach to offsetting their environmental footprint.
Majid Huraimel Al Shamsi, Director of SEWA General Department of Institutional Support, accepted the certificate on behalf of SEWA from Mahmoud Al Yahya, General Manager of Xerox UAE. Al Shamsi emphasized that this achievement underscores SEWA’s ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and social responsibility, in alignment with the vision of HH Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
“This recognition highlights SEWA’s dedication to sustainable development and environmental preservation. We are deeply committed to supporting initiatives that have a positive impact on the environment,” stated Majid Huraimel Al Shamsi.
In addition to the environmental benefits, SEWA’s participation in the global reforestation initiative also helps to reduce carbon emissions. By planting trees in various regions worldwide based on the volume of paper consumed in printing, SEWA is actively contributing to mitigating the impact of their operations on the environment.
Ahmed Hussein Abdullah Al Hammadi, Head of the Services and Technical Support Department, explained that SEWA is actively working towards electronic transformation to reduce paper usage. Additionally, they are focusing on educating employees about the environmental impact of paper consumption and printing. With a goal of achieving zero paper usage in the future, SEWA is making significant strides towards broader environmental sustainability objectives.
SEWA’s dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable practices not only benefits the local community but also sets a strong example for other organizations to follow. By prioritizing initiatives that support reforestation and reduce carbon emissions, SEWA is playing a crucial role in promoting a greener and more sustainable future.
In conclusion, SEWA’s receipt of the global certificate from PrintReleaf Standard is a testament to their commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. Through their partnership with Xerox Emirates and participation in the reforestation program, SEWA is making tangible contributions to preserving the environment for future generations. This recognition serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible environmental practices and the positive impact they can have on our world.
