Dubai Enhances Urban Mobility: RTA Launches Strategic Access Improvement Project for Key Neighborhoods

Dubai: In a noteworthy initiative aimed at bolstering the quality of life for its residents, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has unveiled a comprehensive project focused on upgrading access points across four pivotal neighborhoods. This ambitious endeavor aligns with Dubai’s leadership directives to enhance infrastructure, stimulate urban growth, and improve the overall residential experience.

The project encompasses significant upgrades along vital thoroughfares, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and Hessa Street. By improving connectivity to the neighborhoods of Nadd Hessa, Al Awir 1, Al Barsha South, and Wadi Al Safa 3, the RTA anticipates increasing vehicle capacity at these access points by an impressive 50% to 80% upon completion.

A Transformative Initiative for Residents

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chairman of the RTA, stated that this initiative is a testament to the authority’s enduring commitment to upgrading infrastructure, which includes enhancements to road networks, comprehensive lighting systems, and stormwater drainage facilities designed to accommodate rising traffic volumes.

The anticipated benefits of this project extend beyond mere infrastructural improvements; it is poised to positively impact the lives of over 400,000 residents. Through meticulous planning, the RTA’s solution not only addresses current traffic challenges but also lays the groundwork for sustainable urban development, fostering an environment that encourages mobility for both residents and visitors.

Infrastructure Developments in Nadd Hessa

Among the highlights of this project is the introduction of a new entry and exit point for Nadd Hessa, strategically positioned to intersect with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. This addition will feature two dedicated lanes capable of accommodating up to 6,000 vehicles per hour. The enhanced connectivity will benefit not just Nadd Hessa but also adjacent areas such as Warsan 4, Hessa Gardens, and Dubai Silicon Oasis, which together boast a population exceeding 300,000 residents.

The scope of the project extends from the service road parallel to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to the intersection of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. Integral components include a roundabout to facilitate access to both Nadd Hessa and Dubai Silicon Oasis, as well as a signalized junction, which promises to drastically reduce travel times from 138 seconds to a mere 37 seconds.

Al Awir 1 and Al Barsha South: Key Enhancements

The improvements also aim to deeply impact Al Awir 1, where a new 7.5 km road will forge a direct connection to Emirates Road, enhancing accessibility for a community exceeding 50,000 residents. This road will double the current traffic capacity from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour.

In Al Barsha South, traffic flow will be significantly improved through the addition of a third left-turn lane at the Hessa Street intersection. Moreover, Hessa Street will be expanded by two lanes over a span of 1,114 meters, resulting in an increase in capacity from 6,000 to an impressive 9,000 vehicles per hour. This enhancement will effectively reduce signal wait times from four minutes to just one minute, thereby streamlining the commuting experience.

Wadi Al Safa 3 and Al Warqa: A Comprehensive Approach

The RTA’s ambitious vision continues with plans for Wadi Al Safa 3, which will benefit from the creation of a new access point from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, along with 4 km of newly structured internal roads. These developments promise to cut travel distances and times dramatically, enhancing the overall efficiency of the transport network.

Simultaneously, advancements in Al Warqa will include a direct entry and exit from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, coupled with an 8 km expansion of the internal road system to manage increasing traffic demand. Expecting to accommodate an additional 5,000 vehicles per hour, this project is set to slash travel time by 80%, reducing the journey from 20 minutes to a mere 3.5 minutes.

In total, the RTA is dedicated to ensuring that this project not only meets the immediate transport needs of over 350,000 residents but also fosters a long-term vision of urban development tailored to the evolving landscape of Dubai.

Through these strategic enhancements, the RTA is determined to create a more interconnected, efficient, and sustainable urban environment, thus epitomizing Dubai’s commitment to progress and innovation.
