In an exciting development for the Northern Emirates, Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) has inaugurated four essential facilities as part of its ambitious strategy to bolster the region’s electricity and water infrastructure. With a significant investment of AED 422 million (approximately 4.9 million), these state-of-the-art facilities aim to meet the growing demand for utilities driven by rapid population increases and ongoing regional development.

Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, the CEO of EtihadWE, highlighted the importance of these new undertakings during the inauguration ceremony, describing it as a pivotal milestone in the company’s strategic roadmap. Al Ali remarked, “By enhancing our infrastructure, we are not only catering to the needs of our residents and businesses but are also aligned with the UAE’s sustainability goals and its objectives for economic diversification.”

Key Infrastructure Developments

The newly launched facilities include significant upgrades and constructions in various regions, aimed at establishing a more reliable utility service for residents and businesses alike.

In Ajman, the Al Hamidiya Main Substation (132/11 KV) has replaced the outdated Al Hamidiya station, marking a substantial investment of AED 137 million. Furthermore, the Mohamed Bin Zayed Substation (33/11 KV) has been constructed in a government-supported Local Community Residential Area, costing around AED 61 million. Fujairah is also seeing advancements, with the Al-Nujaymat Main Station receiving upgrades valued at AED 122 million, integrating advanced technology and equipment that promise better service delivery.

Advanced Operational Features

One of the most notable aspects of these substations is their capability to operate completely unmanned. The facilities are monitored remotely and make use of low-maintenance technologies that greatly improve operational efficiency. Enhanced safety measures and improved monitoring features for power transformers reflect the shift towards modern operational methodologies. The transition from manual to automated systems not only reduces the need for onsite personnel but also enhances real-time responsiveness to any operational anomalies.

Boosting Community Utility Connections

The introduction of the Al Hamidiya and Al-Nujaymat substations will support around 15,000 residential and commercial utility connections, encompassing a variety of structures from villas and apartments to community centers and shopping malls. In addition, the Mohamed Bin Zayed Substation will provide essential power to 2,500 units, significantly benefiting the local economy and residents by ensuring consistent and reliable utility services.

As utility demands in the region continue to rise due to urbanization and population growth, the impact of these developments cannot be overstated. Local communities will undoubtedly reap the benefits of improved infrastructure, making daily life more manageable while promoting economic activities.

Enhancing Water Distribution Efficiency

Water management is also a crucial aspect of EtihadWE’s strategy, as evidenced by the newly inaugurated Al Ghail Pumping Station in Ras Al Khaimah. This facility is part of the Al Ghail Distribution Center, with an investment of AED 122 million. It aims to optimize water distribution to the Central Region, covering Idhn, Al Ghail, Shoukah, Kadra, Masfout, and Muzairaa. Additionally, parts of Sharjah such as Dhaid, Malihah, Al Madam, and Hamda will also benefit from enhanced water distribution capabilities.

This evolution in water management aligns with the UAE’s National Water Strategy 2036, which aims to achieve water security and sustainability across the nation. By investing in infrastructure that increases efficiency and reliability in both electricity and water distribution, EtihadWE is making significant strides towards meeting the country’s stringent sustainability and growth goals.

Future Implications

The advancements made by EtihadWE embody a comprehensive approach to infrastructure development that prioritizes sustainability, reliability, and community needs. With population growth and urbanization projected to continue in the Northern Emirates, the ongoing enhancements to water and electricity facilities will be crucial in addressing future demands.

As residents of these regions welcome the changes brought about by these new facilities, the UAE’s broader vision of sustainable growth and economic diversification becomes more tangible. EtihadWE’s efforts exemplify how public utilities can lead the way in fostering an environment conducive to both business and residential growth.
