DEWA in Dubai Records Over 6.7 Million Digital Transactions in First Half of 2024, Showing 11% Increase
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has reported a significant increase in digital transactions conducted by its customers in the first half of 2024. According to a press release, customers carried out over 6.7 million digital transactions during this period, compared to approximately 6 million transactions in the first half of 2023, marking an 11 percent increase.
DEWA revealed that over 1.1 million digital transactions were conducted through the authority’s website, more than 2.2 million via its smart app, and in excess of 3.3 million transactions across various digital channels developed in collaboration with partners. This rise in digital transactions reflects DEWA’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance customer experience and streamline processes.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, DEWA’s managing director and CEO, underscored the authority’s commitment to the Dubai Digital Strategy and its goal of reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global leader in digital innovation. Al Tayer emphasized DEWA’s focus on leveraging disruptive technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to drive digital transformation, improve transaction efficiency, and enhance stakeholder satisfaction.
DEWA’s advanced digital infrastructure has enabled a smart adoption rate of its services of 99.2 percent, with more than 90 projects digitally integrated with 65 government and private organizations by the end of 2023. This digital integration has contributed to improved service delivery and increased accessibility for customers.
In line with its commitment to enhancing infrastructure, DEWA recently commissioned eight new 132 kV transmission substations in Dubai during the first half of 2024. These substations have a combined capacity of 1,200 megavolt-amperes (MVA) and a total cost of AED 1.36 billion (0 million). The new substations support Dubai’s growing development and urban expansion, catering to the increasing demand for electricity across the emirate.
The projects also included the installation of 89 kilometers of ground cable, which enhances the efficiency of the 132 kV transmission network in Dubai. These substations were strategically located in key areas such as Al Thanya 3, Al Barsha South 4, Wadi Al Shabak, Nadd Hessa, International City Phase 2, Wadi Al Safa 5, and Umm Suqeim 3 to ensure optimal coverage and distribution of electricity across Dubai.
DEWA’s investments in digital infrastructure and transmission substations are aligned with its overarching goal of providing reliable and sustainable utility services to residents and businesses in Dubai. By prioritizing digital innovation and infrastructure development, DEWA is paving the way for a smarter and more efficient future for the emirate.
