AI Summer Programs Attract 2,400 Students in Abu Dhabi – Dubai Forum
Abu Dhabi’s Education and Knowledge Department (ADEK) has taken a monumental step forward in shaping the future of AI education by partnering with 42 Abu Dhabi and the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) to launch an innovative series of AI Summer Programs. These programs are designed to ignite a passion for AI among students in grades 9 to 12 from both public and private schools in Abu Dhabi, equipping them with essential skills to succeed in the ever-evolving field of artificial intelligence.
The cornerstone of these programs lies in the Generative AI and Prompt Engineering Bootcamps, developed in collaboration with 42 Abu Dhabi. These bootcamps offer a hands-on learning experience for students, focusing on enhancing their problem-solving abilities and preparing them for the workforce of the future. Stretching over a four-week duration, the bootcamps come in two formats to cater to different learning preferences. The full-day bootcamp, held at six schools across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, delves deep into Generative AI and Prompt Engineering, providing participants with valuable insight into fine-tuning language models and mastering practical AI tools. For students seeking a condensed learning experience, a 2-hour session in partnership with Majalis Abu Dhabi offers Emirati students interactive group activities and exposure to key AI concepts.
In a strategic collaboration with MBZUAI, a five-day summer program has been crafted for grade 11 students. This program encompasses a range of workshops covering topics such as film production, generative AI, responsible AI, and sustainability research. Moreover, ADEK and MBZUAI are grooming four Emirati students for the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), scheduled to take place from August 9-15 in Bulgaria. To bolster the students’ preparedness for the competition, two MBZUAI students will serve as mentors, providing guidance and support as they showcase their skills on the global stage.
Mubarak Hamad Al Mheiri, ADEK Undersecretary, has underscored the department’s dedication to nurturing a generation of AI-savvy students primed for success in this cutting-edge field. He emphasized the importance of empowering young minds to drive impactful change on a global scale, stressing the significance of collaborations with esteemed institutions like 42 Abu Dhabi and MBZUAI in offering top-tier AI training to Abu Dhabi’s youth.
In an age where AI is increasingly ubiquitous, initiatives like the AI Summer Programs assume a pivotal role in ensuring students are armed with the requisite knowledge and skills to thrive in the digital era. By kindling a passion for AI early on and affording hands-on training, these programs are laying the groundwork for a new cohort of AI leaders who will steer the course of technology and innovation in the future.
As the world hurtles towards an AI-dominated future, it is imperative that students are adeptly equipped to navigate this terrain. The AI Summer Programs in Abu Dhabi not only serve to spark an interest in AI among students but also furnish them with practical skills and knowledge that will be indispensable in their future professional endeavors. Through partnerships with leading institutions and the provision of specialized workshops, Abu Dhabi is investing in the next wave of AI talent, forging a path for innovation and technological advancement in the region.
In summation, the collaborative efforts between ADEK, 42 Abu Dhabi, and MBZUAI to introduce the AI Summer Programs reflect Abu Dhabi’s steadfast commitment to preparing its youth for the digital age. By offering hands-on workshops, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to cutting-edge AI concepts, these programs are reshaping the landscape of AI education in the region. As students engage with AI technologies and hone their skills, they are not only gearing up for their own futures but also contributing to the progress and development of Abu Dhabi as a nucleus for innovation and technology. By instilling a love for AI and fostering a deep understanding of its principles, these programs are sowing the seeds for a brighter, more technologically advanced future for Abu Dhabi.
